Make Your Own Flags! Minecraft Data Pack (2024)

Welcome to the pack! ~Now available for download~

Don't forget the Resource Pack!

This pack lets you make your own custom flags and place them anywhere you like!

Using the various Minecraft colors and the patterns included in the pack, there are 637,200 possible flags that can be made!

Here's a shot of a few of the flags I'm using for a work of fiction:

Design Basics
In designing your flag, you can use up to two patterns and three colors for variety. You start with a Canvas - this is simply a Carpet in your choice of colors. You then add a Base Pattern and an Accent Pattern, as well as a colored Dye for each.

You'll craft the Patterns with simple new recipes on a Crafting table; more detail about this below.

Anatomy of a Flag

Below is a visual example of this with an Italian flag. It's made from a Red Carpet canvas, a Left Horizontal Bar base pattern with Green Dye, and a Center Horizontal Bar accent pattern with White Dye.

And here's what this flag looks like after placement:

Side Note: Why the Italian flag? Well, because in Italy, they make the Best Food in the World, bar none. Additionally, it's at the top of my bucket list of places to go someday after the Zombie Apocalypse ends.

Patterns
As stated, Base Patterns and Accent Patterns are crafted on a Crafting Table. They are relatively simple to make, with Base Pattern recipes requiring Leather and Rabbit Hide, and Accent Pattern recipes requiring Sticks and Paper.

Crafted from four Sticks, the Null Pattern allows one not to include a Base or Accent Pattern in the flag.

Take note that when you craft any of these recipes, you'll see a Knowledge Book as the crafted item. Not to worry — as soon as you click on the book, you'll receive the pattern you crafted!

Okay, so I've crafted the patterns I want to use for my flag. How do I make the flag?
Flag making happens at the new Flagcrafting Table! The interface has 5 slots for items used in crafting a customized flag — more about the recipes below.

To make a Flagcrafting Table, you upgrade a Cartography Table by smashing a Bottle o' Enchanting on or beside it.

And then, you'll need your items to use on the table.

Tip: The table works like an upright Hopper - you have to right-click the top to access the interface.

Flagcrafting
Flagcrafting requires a Canvas, a Base Pattern, and an Accent Pattern, as well as some dye for color. I won't be listing 600,000 recipes, but they all follow the same format:
Make Your Own Flags! Minecraft Data Pack (31)
The Canvas item in the first slot; the Base Pattern and its chosen color dye in the second and third slots; and the Accent Pattern and its chosen color dye in the fourth and fifth. This example creates the Italian flag used in the above diagram.

Specifically...
•A Canvas item must be one of the 16 colored Carpets
•The Base Pattern must be the Null Pattern or one of the green-hued pattern items from the Base Patterns section above
•The Accent Pattern must be the Null Pattern or one of the blue-hued pattern items from the Accent Patterns section above
•Unless the Null Pattern is being used, one of the 16 colored Dyes must be specified for each used pattern's color

With regards to the Null Pattern: It's used to exclude a Base Pattern, an Accent Pattern, or both from your flag. Below are some visual examples.

Example: Base Pattern with no Accent Pattern

To place your Customized Flag, Use (right-click) the flag item. It won't be expended - each Customized Flag item can be placed as many times as you wish.

The Flags are essentially indestructible. That being said, to remove an existing flag, smashing a Bottle o' Enchanting near its base will do the trick!

Enjoy :)
